Welcome

Welcome!

We’re glad that you’ve visited the website for the American Board of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. Whether you are considering attaining board certification or simply want more information about the certification process, we hope this website meets your needs.

The ABCCAP is a specialty board of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).  Successful completion of the board certification process is a strong statement of a psychologist’s competence in his or her area of specialization. Board certification in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology focuses on verification of education, training, and experience in the specialty as well as demonstration of the foundational and functional competencies of the specialty.

If you are seeking a board certified psychologist, please visit the American Board of Professional Psychology’s Directory of Specialty Board Certified Psychologists.  The site will allow you to search for a psychologist by specialty area, state of licensure, name, and/or zip code.

If you are a psychologist interested in board certification in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, there are two pathways to demonstrate specialty education, training, and experience. One is for early and mid-career psychologists, one is for those who have been in the field 15 years or longer (the “senior option”). Our board is committed to a positive and professional application and examination process. If you decide to pursue board certification, you may request a mentor to assist you through the process.

If you are involved in educating and training psychology students in a predoctoral, internship or postdoctoral clinical child and adolescent psychology setting, we invite you to consider ABCCAP board certification as a demonstration of your competence and as a model of professional development. We also encourage you to enlist your students in the ABPP Early Entry Program.

If you are a student or recent graduate who has training in pediatric and/or clinical child and adolescent psychology, we encourage you to start the process of progression toward board certification through ABPP at a reduced fee. Find information about ABPP’s Early Entry Program here.

We appreciate your interest in board certification in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. Please contact any member of the ABCCAP board if you have any questions about the process. We are happy to respond to your inquiries.
